Buy or Sell in Winter
There is a misconception that the winter months aren’t a good time to buy or sell a home. While it’s true that the market typically makes a seasonal slowdown, sales in December of 2019 soared up 11.4% compared to December a year ago. Apparently, not everyone is hiding indoors during the winter weather! Yes, life goes on and people need to buy or sell throughout the entire year! There are plenty of advantages to buying and selling during the winter season. Let’s take a look at some of them:
Less Competition-December sales soared, but inventory levels are still way down. Many people still want to wait until the warmer months to list their home. This means there will be more homes on the market competing for the seller to attract the buyer – and for the buyer to compete against other buyers who have waited until the weather warms up to start their home search. Why wait when you have a great opportunity for buyers to be sure to see your home if you list now?
Motivation – Those who are ready to list or buy in the winter are serious and want to get their home closed before more competition rolls around in the spring.
Mortgage Process is Fast – With less people applying for loans because winter is generally a less competitive season, lenders are going to be less busy. This provides undivided attention to those who do decide to buy and sell.
Winter Beauty – When the deciduous trees lose their leaves, buyers have the opportunity to see the house better – especially if the trees normally block the view of the house. It’s very important that buyers see the house!
Economic Conditions – With low interest rates, unemployment at or near the national average, the influx of good-paying jobs and very affordable housing, this is a great time to buy or sell a home.
